October 2026 SESSION

Domestic violence calls are some of the most high-risk and emotionally complex situations a telecommunicator will ever manage. In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, this session—developed in partnership with the Gabby Petito Foundation—examines the unique challenges of supporting callers who may be frightened, whispering, unable to speak openly, or actively in danger.

“Domestic Violence Awareness in 9-1-1” provides practical, trauma-informed strategies to help telecommunicators identify subtle red flags, recognize caller behavior patterns, and navigate rapidly evolving situations where safety is uncertain. Participants will learn how to build rapport under pressure, use language that reduces harm, and maintain calm decision-making while coordinating an effective response.

With real-world examples and evidence-informed guidance, this session strengthens instincts, increases confidence, and empowers call-takers to support victims with clarity, compassion, and professionalism.
