Ms. Ornberg began her emergency communications career in 1970 as a police dispatcher. Her professional experience also includes supervisor, 9-1-1 coordinator and ultimately director. During Sherrill’s 21-years as executive director, her accomplishments include the management of an industry recognized consolidated multi-jurisdictional emergency communications center bordering the City of Chicago. She is the founding Chairman of the joint Illinois National Emergency Number Association & Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials’ Telecommunicator Training Standards and Certification Initiative 2011-2016. She has been a Denise Amber Lee Foundation Board Member since 2010 and serves as their Director of Quality Assurance.
Since her retirement as executive director in 2013, she has focused on her passion for quality assurance,through her Foundation involvement,by lecturing and assisting PSAPs across the country on how to understand and implement a QA/QI program. She is the designer and sole architect of the national Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement Program’s score forms, standard performance criteria and implementation instructions for call-taking and dispatching of law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services. She also has been the project manager on a number of consulting projects focused on performance standards, consolidations, employee assessments and director recruitments.
