Matt Grogan

Communications Specialist - Combined Communications Center - Las Vegas Fire & Rescue

Henderson, Nevada

Matt is a Public Safety Instructor with the Denise Amber Lee Foundation, who brings in over 15 years of public safety communications experience. With that experience and through his passion and enthusiasm for the job, he brings a raw and realistic teaching style to his trainings, presentations, and keynotes. He puts an emphasis on combining all the perspectives and roles within a 911 center, from telecommunicators to supervisors, technicians to executive management, and beyond. Even with spending his entire career in large, high volume emergency communication centers, he bridges the gap and is able to understand and discuss the challenges and issues of centers both large and small.

When he is not teaching with the Foundation, Matt serves as an Acting Communications Supervisor for the Combined Communications Center of Las Vegas Fire and Rescue. This award winning center covers fire and medical dispatching for the majority of Clark County in Southern Nevada, which houses over 2 millions residents, and is home to the world-famous Las Vegas Strip, which welcomes over 45 millions visitors a year, including 22,000 that were in attendance at the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting on October 1st, 2017, an incident which Matt worked.

Currently holding his Emergency Number Professional certification from the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), Matt also holds numerous certifications from NENA, APCO, FEMA, The Center for Domestic Preparedness and many other public safety training organizations. Active on the national level, he serves on the national APCO Pro-CHRT committee and has recently partnered with Motorola Solutions to bring Telecommunicator Recognition to the forefront. Matt has also authored several articles for APCO’s PSC Magazine regarding dealing with Critical Incidents and the emotional aftermath they bring. On the state level, he serves as the 1st Vice President for the Nevada APCO Chapter and is the state coordinator for the Nevada TERT team.

On a personal level, Matt lives in Henderson, Nevada, where he enjoys spending time with his two dogs. He is an avid sports fan and attends as many games and events as possible, while also enjoying photography and writing.
