November 13, 2009 MEMORANDUM Re: House Bill 355 State Representative Ken Roberson, District 71 & State Senator Nancy Detert, District 23 will be holding a Press Conference, Monday at 1:00 PM on November 16, 2009, in front of the North Port City Fire Station #81, 4970 City Hall Blvd., North Port, FL 34286 to announce legislation they have filed regarding Florida’s 911 system.
The proposed legislation which has been filed for the 2010 Legislative Session of the Florida Legislature will provide for:
- A statewide uniform standard of training and the mandatory certification of 911 Public Safety Telecommunicators (911 Emergency Dispatchers).
- Requiring any person employed at a 911 Public Safety Answering Point or 911 Call Center to be certified
- A definition of a Public Safety Telecommunication Training Program and requiring the Department of Health to approve the program
- 911 Public Safety Telecommunicators to pass a state examination administered by the Department of Health which measures competency and proficiency 20 hours of renewal training for re-certification biennially Funding from the E911 Trust Fund ( .50 cent monthly 911 fee on wireless and non-wireless telephone charges)
Representative Roberson has stated “This is an important public safety issue for the citizens of Florida who rely on 911 in times of an emergency”.
